Shakespeare and Heightened Language
This collaborative workshop boasts advanced vocal strengthening techniques and their application into physical performance skills (stage combat, physical theatre, dance etc.) within classical theatre. We’ll experiment with various exercises and develop a deeper connection to your authentic voice, allowing you the confidence to deliver clear vocal technique, no matter the physical demands of a production.
WORKSHOP DAY 1
- ‘Play’ preparation.
- Body release and exploration of the spine.
- Breathing and support.
- Exploring range, resonance and articulators.
- Advanced techniques to analyse and evaluate classical text.
- Embodied exercises to discover the content, meaning, form and meter.
- Discuss words and imagery within the text.
WORKSHOP DAY 2
- Recap and combine all parts from Day 1.
- Further and deepen your vocal connection to the text, whilst applying physical performance skills.
- Learn how to apply and maintain the techniques you’ve learned within a performance setting.

Sam HendrixActor, Voice and Text Coach & Shakespeare Specialist
Sam Hendrix is a voice and text coach, with an MA in Voice Studies for the Central School of Speech and Drama and an MA in Performing Shakespeare, with advanced training at the Globe Theatre. Samuel is an experienced classical theatre performer, having worked on multitudes of stages across the UK and Europe. His passion lies in collaborating with the actor to bring variety and playfulness within their voice, generating a deeper connection to the text and language.
